Karijini
Some background info on how my Karijini Trip came about…
2 years ago, Hannah did some sneaky squirrel business and organised a surprise proposal for her partner Elyse at Amelia Park Winery in Margaret River. I was so excited when she asked me to capture this special moment, which you can see a photo of at the bottom of this post. We kept in touch and I felt over the moon when they asked me to photograph their wedding that’s coming up in January 2020.
Living up north is the Pilbara together, Hannah is a Geologist & Elyse a Primary School Teacher. They came down south in April to do some wedding planning, so I caught up with them for a Vino. These girls are very passionate wine lovers you see ;-) We got chatting about how they live just up the road from Karijini and that now is the ideal season to visit. Before I knew it, I had booked flights for myself and my friend Grace to visit them the following week.
On a plane full of fifo workers in high-vis work gear, I soon realised, that was the general dress code for the Pilbara. We landed in Paraburdoo and caught the bus to Tom Price where Hannah picked us up on her lunch break in... yep you guessed it; high-vis work gear. She gave us a quick tour around town before so generously handing over the keys to their Prado to go and explore the National Park.
Grace and I ventured around to all the spectacular gorges and waterways Karijini has to offer. We camped at Dales Gorge one night and enjoyed some Vasse Felix Shiraz while star gazing. I lay on the swag, under the night sky as I heard my first dingo howl, echoing through the breeze. I thought I was dreaming and it felt so surreal yet peaceful.
Throughout this incredible adventure, I had an overwhelming feeling of euphoria about how special this place is, and at times, would find myself tearing up over it’s unique and beautiful landscapes.
If there’s one place on this planet I highly recommend visiting - it’s definitely Karijini.
Thanks Hannah & Elyse for showing us your world. I cannot wait for your wedding in January!
